The finance minister completed her Pre-Budget Consultation with stakeholders, unions and other representatives on January 6, ahead of beginning work on Budget 2025-26. Meanwhile, the first part of the Parliament's Budget session is confirmed to begin from January 31 till February 13, 2025. And the second part of the session will commence on March 10 and conclude on April 4, 2025.
Nirmala Sitharaman's 8th Budget Speech
In Sitharaman's eighth Budget speech, the industry is expecting significant announcements ranging from income tax breaks, GST rationalisation, industry-specific policies and more, aimed at reviving the economy, the job market, and boosting consumer sentiments.
This will be Sitharaman's second full-fledged Budget in Modi 3.0, and her eighth budget presentation overall in Parliament. She has presented six annual and two interim budgets under the NDA government's consecutive terms in power.
As per convention over the past years, the finance minister is expected to give her Budget speech in Parliament at 11 am on February 1, 2025. However, there has been no official statement or confirmation of the date from the Finance Ministry as yet.
Further, as per official circulars, the BSE and NSE will remain open on February 1, 2025, despite it being a Saturday due to the Union Budget 2025-26.

In the previous budget, the finance minister urged state governments to address this issue, but significant progress has yet to be made. We hope this budget includes provisions to streamline these charges and provide much-needed relief to homebuyers. Additionally, we urge the government to revisit the long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax on real estate and consider providing relief in this area," said Agarwal.

They have also established 15 DRDO Academia Industry Centres of Excellence in various IITs/Universities.

Lakshmann noted that Ayushman Bharat has been instrumental in providing financial coverage to economically disadvantaged populations, but a significant issue persists — high-quality private hospitals are often reluctant to admit patients under the program. Only 43% of the hospitals empaneled under Ayushman Bharat are private. Many private hospitals cite low reimbursement rates and delayed payments as key barriers.
He also pointed out that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's allocation for 2024-25 stands at ₹90,959 crore, or 1.89% of the total budget—a decline from 2.3% in 2019-20. "To achieve equitable access to quality healthcare, the government must balance its focus between schemes like Ayushman Bharat and building a robust healthcare infrastructure. Establishing more high-quality, government-funded hospitals will reduce reliance on private institutions, address regional disparities, and create a sustainable, inclusive healthcare ecosystem," Lakshmann added.

He noted that this type of taxation also makes car rentals more expensive for app-based aggregators, and leasing becomes costlier than bank funding due to GST being charged even on interest.
He wants the Budget to introduce a unified tax regime of 5% without ITC across all car rental and leasing products; besides a unified one-time or monthly state entry tax for all commercial vehicles, to simplify and boost the self-drive car rental business.
