CBI Files Chargesheets in Two High-Profile Bribery Cases of Tax Officers

In a separate case, the CBI arrested five individuals, including a Principal Commissioner of Income Tax for Patna and Dhanbad, in a bribery scandal involving Rs. 10 lakh from various income tax assessees. The case was registered based on information indicating that the Principal Commissioner was accepting illegal gratification in exchange for providing undue benefits to certain taxpayers. The investigation also revealed the involvement of several intermediaries acting on behalf of the Principal Commissioner. The CBI conducted searches at 21 locations in Patna, Dhanbad, and Noida, resulting in the recovery of incriminating documents and items. All accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Special CBI Court in Patna, and the investigation is ongoing.

CBI FILES CHARGESHEET AGAINST ACCUSED THEN ASSTT. COMMISSIONER OF CGST, GUWAHATI IN A CASE OF BRIBERY

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed chargesheet on 27.08.2024 against accused then Asstt. Commissioner, CGST, GST Commissionerate, Guwahati in a case of bribery.

A case was registered by CBI on 29.06.2024 on the complaint of a private businessman against accused then Asstt. Commissioner, CGST, GST Commissionerate, Guwahati. It was alleged that the complainant was served demand and show cause notices and that he was called a number of times to CGST office by the accused. The complainant further alleged that he had carried out civil works for which all the due taxes were paid by him. The complainant further alleged that on his visit to CGST office to enquire about the matter, said Assistant Commissioner demanded Rs. two lakh as undue advantage for passing favourable orders. After negotiations, accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs. 50,000/- as bribe.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant. Subsequently, accused was arrested by CBI.

Searches were also conducted at the official and residential premises of accused at Guwahati and Hyderabad.

CBI ARRESTS 05 ACCUSED INCLUDING A PRINCIPAL COMMISSIONER OF INCOME TAX (PATNA & DHANBAD) AND 4 PRIVATE PERSONS IN A BRIBERY OF Rs 10 LAKH FROM DIFFERENT ASSESSEES OF INCOME TAX

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 05 accused including Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna & Dhanbad) during exchange of illegal gratification of Rs. 10 lakh from different assesses of Income Tax.

On the basis of the information disclosing commission of a cognizable offence, CBI registered a case on allegations that accused was demanding and accepting illegal gratification from different assessees of Income Tax, under his jurisdiction to cause undue benefit to them by abuse of his official position. It was also alleged that there were several conduits who were working on behalf of the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna & Dhanbad).

Searches are being conducted at around 21 locations in Patna, Dhanbad and Noida (U.P.) which led to recovery of incriminating documents and articles.

All accused persons will be produced at the Court of Ld. Spl. Judge, CBI Cases, Patna tomorrow i.e. 28.08.2024.

Investigation is continuing.
