A Superintendent and an Inspector from the CGST office in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, have been apprehended on charges related to bribery.
The arrests were made following a complaint lodged with the CBI, alleging that the accused officials demanded a bribe of Rs.12,000 from a complainant to facilitate the processing and approval of CGST registration for his firm. Upon negotiation, the bribe amount was reduced to Rs.8,000, which the officials agreed to accept. The CBI, acting on this information, laid a trap and caught the Inspector red-handed while accepting the bribe. Subsequently, the identity of the other accused, initially identified as a Tax Assistant but later revealed to be a Superintendent, was also confirmed.
Following the arrests, searches were conducted at multiple locations including the official and residential premises of the accused in Solan, Mohali, and Una District. During these searches, several incriminating documents and articles were seized, further substantiating the allegations against the accused.
Both accused individuals were promptly presented before the Competent Court in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant development in the case. The investigation remains ongoing, with the CBI continuing to gather evidence and pursue leads related to this corruption scandal.
The arrests of the CGST Superintendent and Inspector underscore the CBI's commitment to combating corruption within government agencies. CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent And Inspector In A Case Related To Demand & Accepting Bribe From Complainant
CBI has arrested a Superintendent and an Inspector, both of Central Goods & Services Tax (CGST), Solan Office (Himachal Pradesh) in a case related to demand and accepting of bribe of Rs.8000 from the complainant.
A case was registered by CBI U/s 61(2) of Bhartiya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 r/w section 7 of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (As amended in July, 2018) against Inspector and Tax Assistant (later on identified as Supdt.), both of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST), Solan office, H.P, on the basis of a complaint. It was alleged that accused demanded a bribe of Rs.12,000/- from the complainant through the friend of complainant for processing and approval of CGST Registration number of his firm. Accused asked complainant to visit their office for the said purpose, failing which, his CGST Registration would be rejected. During the complainant's visit to the said CGST office, accused reduced bribe amount and agreed to accept Rs.8,000/- for the official act and asked the complainant to come to their office in Solan alongwith the said undue advantage/bribe.
CBI laid a trap and accused Inspector was caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 8000/- from the complainant in criminal conspiracy with other accused whose correct identity was revealed as Superintendent after trap.
Searches were conducted at the official & residential premises of accused at Solan (HP), Mohali (Punjab) and Una Distt. (HP). Some incriminating documents/ articles have been recovered during searches.
Both the accused persons were arrested and were produced before the Competent Court at Shimla (HP).
Investigation is continuing.
