The officers of Anti Evasion wing of CGST Thane Commissionerate of Mumbai Zone have arrested a couple, for GST evasion of Rs. 12.23 Crore. Based on detailed data mining and data analysis, a Thane based firm M/s Datalink Consultancy was identified as suspicious entity and enquiry was initiated against this firm. Investigation revealed that this firm was providing manpower to various high-profile companies. The firm had collected GST from the clients, but had not deposited the GST to the government exchequer for more than one year, in violation of the provisions of CGST Act 2017.

Two partners of this firm, who happen to be husband (50 years) and wife (48 years), were arrested on 03.02.2022, under Section 69 of CGST Act 2017 for contravention of Section 132(d) of CGST Act 2017 and produced before the First-Class Judicial Magistrate Thane. Both were sent to judicial custody of 14 days. If proved guilty, the couple, shall face imprisonment up to 5 years and fine. This has been stated by Commissioner of CGST AND Central Excise in Thane Shri Rajan Chaudhary.
This case is a part of Anti-Evasion drive launched by CGST, Mumbai Zone against the tax evaders and fraudsters. CGST Thane Commissionerate, during this drive, has detected tax evasion of Rs.1023 Crore, recovered Rs.17 Crores and arrested 6 persons during the last five months.
The CGST department is using data mining, data analysis and network analysis tools to identify potential tax evaders and fraudsters. The department is focusing on all sectors of economy including service sector and digital economy to target the tax evaders who had been causing unfair competition for honest and compliant tax-payers. The department is going to intensify this anti-evasion drive in the coming days and months.
