Introduction: The Goods and Services Tax Practitioners' Association of Maharashtra (GSTPAM) has submitted a formal request to the Commissioner of State Tax in Maharashtra, urging an extension of the due dates for filing returns under The Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975. This request stems from widespread technical issues hindering taxpayers and tax practitioners across the state.
Detailed Analysis:
The GSTPAM, established in 1951, serves as a vital body representing Sales Tax Practitioners across Maharashtra. Its membership comprises tax professionals, including Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Company Secretaries, and Advocates, engaged in various tax laws such as GST, VAT, Service Tax, and more. With regional centers strategically located across the state, GSTPAM addresses the diverse needs of practitioners in different districts.
Numerous complaints have surfaced from tax practitioners and taxpayers regarding difficulties in making payments and filing returns under The Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings, and Employments Act, 1975. Technical glitches on the website have impeded payment processes, causing delays and frustrations. Specifically, payments made through the GRAS portal experience significant delays in reflecting on the mahagst portal. Additionally, when payments are finally reflected, issues persist during PTRC return filings.
The impending due date of 31st March 2024 for filing annual and monthly returns exacerbates the situation, as taxpayers struggle to navigate through the technical challenges. Moreover, the last date for payment of Profession Tax Enrollment holders, also set for 31st March 2024, faces delays due to website issues.
Conclusion: Given the magnitude of technical impediments affecting taxpayers and tax practitioners alike, the GSTPAM respectfully urges the Commissioner of State Tax to extend the due date by one month, until 30th April 2024. This extension would provide much-needed relief and enable stakeholders to fulfill their obligations without undue burden or frustration caused by technical glitches. Such an extension demonstrates a proactive approach towards ensuring compliance and streamlining tax processes in Maharashtra.

Sub: Extension of due dates to file returns under The Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975.
Respected Sir,
The Goods and Service Tax Practitioner's Association of Maharashtra (GSTPAM) is a State-level body of Sales Tax Practitioners' established in the year 1951. The Association has its membership spread all over the State of Maharashtra comprising of Tax Practitioners and other professionals such as Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Company Secretaries and Advocates practicing in GST, VAT, Service tax and allied laws. The Association has Regional Centres at district places to cater to the needs of members practicing in various districts of Maharashtra.
It has been communicated by many of the tax practitioners and taxpayers across the state of Maharashtra that they have been facing issues while making payments and filing under The Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1975.
The Dealers are unable to make payment due to website problems. The payments made through GRAS portal are taking more time than usual to get reflected on the mahagst portal and even when the said payments are reflected, there are issues while filing PTRC returns.
As you are aware, 31st March 2024 is the due date for filing of Annual and monthly returns for the period ending 31st March 2024, tax practitioners and taxpayers are facing the problems and are unable to make the payment & file the respective PTRC returns.
Further to this the last date for payment of Profession Tax Enrollment holders is also falling on 31st of March 2024. The Payment for PTEC is held up due to Website Issue.
Considering the above shortcomings on accounts of technical issues, it is humbly requested that the due date may extended by a month's time to 30th April 2024.
Thanking You,
The Goods and Service Tax Practitioner's Association of Maharashtra
